Lesvos was our second stop after taking an overnight ferry from Athens. We collected our hire car and the assigned holiday chauffeur Craig drove us to our lovely guest house in the town of Molyvos. On the way we spotted a salt plain covered in flamingoes which was an amazing sight to see, the photos do not do it justice!
We stayed at Lampetos House run by a lovely retired pharmacist from Athens. As it was out of season we seemed to have the place to ourselves and spent much time admiring the view of Molyvos castle from the infinity pool. The house was perfect for lounging breakfasts and catching up with school work.
As Lesvos is a major holiday destination we did as the tourists do – beaches, Mythos and kebabs.
On the drive back to Mytilini port we visited Anaxos beach with a pool full of swimming turtles and a beach we raked for a sea glass collection. As with the rest of Greece we acquired some new canine friends amongst the sand.
Near the village of Mora we saw an incredible Roman aqueduct which was a great example of infrastructure created by the Roman Empire. It was hard to imagine how such an enormous structure was created.
Back to Mytilini port it was time to load ourselves up again like donkeys and catch the next ferry onwards to Turkiye, we were excited to see what the second county in our adventure would bring. Top on our hit list was turkish delight!

Brilliant photos, makes us want to go there! We had a week at anoxos beach quite a few years ago when there were no sunbeds due to a dispute between council and bar owners over rent.
Well we saw some empty sunbeds! We didn’t make it to the Petrified Forest, would be nice to go back one day it was a lovely island.
We might have been tempted to bin the tour and stay in Lesvos.
I think Craig would have exhausted all of the sights within a week!
