Athens was the first stop on our backpacking tour around the world. We chose Athens for the hands on history lessons and to begin a gradual change in scenery, culture and weather from Europe to Asia. We stayed in Kato Patisia, which was in the suburbs and on the metro so we took many trips on a bargainous 8 Euro for a 5 day ticket.
We visited the top sight of Athens is the Acropolis which is well placed for exploring and eating our way around the city. Some favourite greek eats for us included bakeries and kebabs and we stuffed ourselves full of sugar at a Halloween themed Little Kook cafe.
Lycabettus Hill was reached by a funicular train which took us to the highest point in Athens for a birds-eye view of the acropolis.
Our departure from Athens was by ferry to Lesvos on the way to Turkey.
