Taiwan Road Trip – Part 2

Our road trip continued from Kaohsiung south to Kenting. The first stop was Paradise of Capybaras which has been reviewed by Phoebe here.

Kenting felt like the Costa Del Taiwan in that it had lovely beaches and a booming night market. We enjoyed a rainy afternoon splashing in the waves then a night eating at the market.

We then continued the drive up the east coast of Taiwan.

We had beautiful coastlines but rain so we carried on to Hualien to the most unusual Starbucks in a shipping container. Myself and Craig are partial to a latte but in Taiwan the cheaper convenience stores have been our preferred coffee stops.

Then came one of the best drives of Craig’s life through the Central Cross-Island Highway through a cloud forest and so high we saw snow. There were damaged roads from last year’s earthquake and sheer drops and at times it felt apocalyptic! The road was closed off in parts ad we were not actually sure whether we were supposed to be driving through but we made it!

We rode electric bikes around Sun Moon Lake, Craig and the girls whizzing around and me lagging behind and apparently looking like ‘a granny on a mobility scooter’. We made it nearly all of the way around he lake (over 3okm) to discover we couldn’t complete the loop and had to turn back!

Sophie lost her first tooth and the tooth fairy paid a visit.

Taiwan has been so amazing and we’ve had numerous unexpected experiences. We headed back to Taichung to complete our road tip and enjoyed a teppanyaki dinner. The earthquake museum was an interesting visit, which was a school that had been damaged in the earthquake and now used to educate about earthquakes.

The final part of this chapter involves a bullet train to Taipei to finish off Taiwan with a city break.

You are four sponges soaking up some amazing experiences.
It is amazing that the tooth fairy only gave £2.50? for such an important tooth!
