Luxor Temple, Egypt

Luxor Temple is an Ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile. Our first glimpse of Luxor Temple was from the window of the local McDonalds the previous day! It truly is an open air museum as the statues and columns can be viewed from all around. So much so that we wondered if we needed to bother paying to enter the complex but luckily we did as it was different to Karnak Temple despite being joined by 2.7km long Avenue of Sphinxes. There was a wealth of history on display dating back to approximately 1400 BCE

According to Wikipedia: Luxor temple is dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship; it may have been where many of the pharaohs of Egypt were crowned in reality or conceptually (as in the case of Alexander the Great, who claimed he was crowned at Luxor but may never have traveled south of Memphis, near modern Cairo). During the Roman era, the temple and its surroundings were a legionary fortress and the home of the Roman government in the area.
